AC repair, any hour

Not cooling, short cycling, iced coil, or a unit that won’t start. We find the cause first, then give you repair options and cost.

Know the signs

Call us when you see this

Dallas summers don’t wait, and neither do we. We take AC calls day and night, weekends included.

Before you call, check three things: the thermostat is set to cool, the filter isn’t clogged, and the breaker hasn’t tripped. Don’t open the unit’s electrical panels yourself.

  • Air from the vents is warm or barely cool
  • The system turns on and off every few minutes
  • Ice on the refrigerant lines or the indoor coil
  • Water leaking around the indoor unit
  • Outdoor fan not spinning, or the unit hums but won’t start
  • The breaker keeps tripping
The work

Common fixes we make

Capacitors & contactors

The most common reason a unit hums but won’t start. Usually a same-day fix.

Refrigerant leaks

We find the leak before we add refrigerant, so you aren’t paying to refill a system that will just leak again.

Clogged drain lines

Water leaks and shut-offs often come from a blocked condensate drain.

Frozen coils

Usually airflow or refrigerant. We fix the cause, not just thaw the ice.

Fan motors

Outdoor and indoor blower motors that have stopped or are failing.

Thermostats & controls

Wiring, control boards and thermostats that stop the system from calling for cooling.

From real jobs

What we find inside the unit

Photos from real AC repair calls. Here is what each problem looks like, and how we fix it.

Leaves and debris piled in the base pan around an AC compressor

Debris packed around the compressor

Looking through the coil into the outdoor unit: leaves and wet debris piled in the base pan, with oil around the compressor. Trapped debris holds water against the parts and blocks airflow.

How we fix itWe clear out the base pan, open up the drain holes, clean the coil and track down where the oil is coming from.

Refrigerant gauge set connected to an outdoor AC unit with an R-410A tank

Reading refrigerant pressures

Gauges connected to an R-410A system to read the pressures while the system runs. This is how we tell whether the system is low on refrigerant, overcharged or has a restriction.

How we fix itWe find and fix the leak before adding refrigerant, so you aren’t paying to refill a system that will just leak again.

Manifold gauges and refrigerant tank beside an outdoor AC unit

Checking the charge

The same system on the gauges, measured against the outdoor temperature to check superheat and subcooling, the numbers that show whether the charge is right.

How we fix itAfter any repair we pull a vacuum, weigh in the correct charge and confirm the system is cooling the way it should before we leave.

AC compressor in a base pan with oil and standing water

Oil in the base pan

An oily film around the compressor and in the base pan. Refrigerant carries oil with it, so oil showing up outside the system usually means a refrigerant leak nearby.

How we fix itWe pinpoint the leak with an electronic detector or a nitrogen pressure test, repair it, then evacuate and recharge the system.

Melted and scorched compressor terminal plug held in hand

Burned compressor plug

The wiring plug that connects power to the compressor, melted and scorched. A loose or corroded connection heats up every time the unit starts until it burns.

How we fix itWe shut the power off, replace the plug and damaged wiring, test the compressor windings, and check the capacitor and contactor that may have caused the problem.

Rusted and burned electrical terminals on an AC compressor

Corroded compressor terminals

The compressor’s electrical terminals, rusted and burned. The system should not be restarted like this: a damaged terminal can fail under pressure.

How we fix itWe test the windings and the insulation to ground. If the terminals are sound, we clean them and install a new plug. If they’re damaged, we give you written options for a compressor replacement or a new system.

Inside the outdoor unit

A short walk-through inside a condenser, looking at the compressor, coil and fan from the inside.

How we fix itWe look past the symptom to find the real cause, then explain it in plain words and show you what we found.

Clogged condensate drain line

The end of a drain line packed solid with rust, sludge and buildup. Your AC pulls water out of the air all summer, and when this line clogs, that water backs up into the drain pan, overflows onto ceilings and floors, or trips the safety switch and shuts the system off.

How we fix itWe clear the line, flush it, and replace corroded or blocked sections. We check the drain pan and safety switch so a future clog shuts the system off before water does damage. Regular maintenance keeps it flowing.

How a visit works

Four steps. No surprises.

  1. Diagnose

We test the system and find the real cause, not just the symptom.

  2. Quote & authorize

You get repair and replacement options with prices in writing. Nothing starts until you approve.

  3. Do the work

Same-day repairs in most cases. Installs and repairs done right, with the old equipment hauled away.

  4. Test

We measure airflow and temperatures and show you the result.

Questions we hear

FAQ

Do you really come out at night and on weekends?

Yes. We offer same-day service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Call or text 214-734-5272.

How much does an AC repair cost?

It depends on what failed. We diagnose first and give you the price in writing before any work starts. Allstar Club members get up to 15% off repairs and no after-hours fee.

Can I keep running the AC if it’s iced up?

Turn the cooling off and run the fan only to thaw it, then call us. Running a frozen system can damage the compressor.

Tech came out today (on a Sunday). Our air conditioner stopped working late last night. I called Shain's Service first thing this morning and within 2 hours my AC was up and working. I will definitely use them again in the future.
